How To Press Flowers Using A Microwave. It's Easy To Do.

How To Press Flowers?. There are lots of ways of pressing flowers successfully. Microwaving your flowers is just one of many ways of preserving fresh flowers.

It's nice when you can keep those memories alive by turning your fresh flowers into beautiful pictures made from dried flowers.

Even pressing flowers for memorable card making or gift tags.

How To Press Flowers. Microwave flower Press is the best way of preserving the color and shape of the flowers and leaves. You do not need any fancy tools to do this, only a microwave, which everyone has and some paper napkins, paper towels or blotting paper.

Bare in mind microwaves are different, they have different power strengths, so it’s best to experiment with the same kind of flowers first if possible, before you press the ones you want to keep to avoid any disasters.

It’s best to press the flowers one or two at a time, the bigger the flower the less you press at one time. This will prevent over drying as different flowers have different levels of moister.

This also shortens the time in the microwave and keeps better color and shape. Also press the stems separately from the petals because if not the petals will have a lump and that will not look nice when you make your card or what ever.

Always press a few extra flowers in case of rips when lifting them off the paper and always use tweezers because these petals are so delicate.

You know when they are ready because the flowers will look nice and flat and the paper will be dry.

Keep in mind, if left in to long they will burn, so short times in the microwave is best. 1 or 2 minutes at a time or less.

How To Press Flowers In The Microwave

Things You Will Need

1. Flowers you intend the press. (plus some extra)

2. Paper napkins, paper towels or blotting paper.

3. A flat bottomed microwavable plate.

Method

1. Open the napkin once.

2. Place your flower or leaf inside the napkin and fold it over so it is completely covered.

3. Place the napkin with your flower or leaf onto a flat bottomed plate, this is to catch any moister. This will prevent the flower or leaf from curling at the edges.

4. On average it takes any thing from 20 seconds to about 1 minute (on high) (different flowers have different moister levels) but please experiment first.

5. Remove from the microwave and let stand until cold. If the paper is still moist put it back into the microwave for another 20 seconds.

When the flowers are done, take the flowers out of the microwave and put some heavy books on top and leave over night, just to make sure the flowers stay flat and do not curl up.
