People started to grow roses as far back as 5,000 years ago, some say it all started in China.
Long ago Greeks and Romans named the rose with the goddess of love, Aphrodite being the Greek name and Venus being the Roman name. I am sure you have heard people say "Venus of Love".
During the Roman era roses were used as confetti, medicinal purposes and also made into perfume. (Rose water)
I am sure some of you have heard of "The War of the Roses". In England between 1455-85 civil wars broke out between Houses of Lancaster and York to occupy the English throne. They both had their own, so called badges. The white rose of York and the red rose of Lancaster. And that's were the name "War of the Roses" came from.
So lets start with the meaning of the red rose.

Personally I would not sent yellow roses to someone I love because it is said to represent jealous, something to hide, secrets....
Or perhaps a get well rose basket, to bring a ray if sunshine into a room, because a long time age yellow was associated with warmth and sunshine.
